The idea of using robots to 3D print objects is nothing new. Swarm Fabrication by Hiroki Kaimoto and Samin Farajian takes a different approach. It involves using swarm robots as reconfigurable 3D printers. As the researchers explain, they constructed “X-Y-Z plotter with multiple toio robots, which can be used for drawing plotters and 3D printers.”
This approach can be used to build scalable and reconfigurable fabrication machines on demand. For this project, toio robots and 3D printed attachments were used.
