The idea of using a robotic third hand to assist people with everyday tasks is nothing new. This video from the ASU Bio-Inspired Mechatronics Lab explores a soft poly-limb, which is a soft robot for manipulation assistance of healthy and impaired users.
The SPL can manipulate objects with a variety of end effectors. It can be used to help impaired users live more independently or give workers a helping hand. As the above video shows, the limb can be controlled using a smart glove.
