Impact protection and vibration isolation are important when developing robots for real-world scenarios. MIT researchers have managed to 3D print custom soft materials to protect drones and robots. They allow robots to land safely and precisely. Standard materials were used with a non-curing liquid. Specific parts of objects can have their stiffness and elasticity programmed.

Robot designers will be able to use such an approach to reduce impact forces on their jumping robots. More info is available on MIT.
