Here is another bio-inspired robot designed to study walking on rough terrain. The LAURON is a 6-legged walking robot actuated by 24 joints. Its head can move in 2 directions, so the robot has a total 26 degrees of freedom.
The robot also comes with a 3D force sensor in each leg, a rotational 3D laser scanner on its back, stereo & IR cameras on its head, and other sensors. The above video from FZI shows the robot in action.
