AutoSaw: Using Robots to Build Custom Furniture

0

Robots are already capable of doing many things for us. That applies to helping us create custom furniture while reducing dangers of sawing. AutoSaw is a robot assisted carpentry system that helps with designing furniture for all kinds of scenarios. Users will be able to customize the size, shape, and sturdiness of their furniture. As the team explains:

To cut lumber the team used motion-tracking software and small mobile robots — an approach that takes up less space and is more cost-effective than large robotic arms. Specifically, the team used a modified Roomba with a jigsaw attached to cut lumber of any shape on a plank. For the chopping, the team used two Kuka youBots to lift the beam, place it on the chop saw, and cut.

AutoSaw: Robot Assisted Carpentry

AutoSaw is still in research phase. In the future, it could integrate drilling, gluing, and other complex tasks.

未来機械 ソーラーパネル掃除ロボット Miraikikai Solar Cleaning Robot Type1(未来機械 提供)

Plenty of businesses are serious about using solar power for their energy needs. Keeping a large solar array clean is not always easy. Now you can get robots to do it. These solar panel cleaning robots use brushes and a fan to get rid of dust on solar panels. They weigh only 28kg.

These robots simply keep solar arrays performing at their max.

In the past few months, we have covered plenty of cool welding robots. Scott Automation + Robotics have shared a video that shows dual robotic welding setup in action. It involves using two robots to improve weld consistency, speed, and quality. Errors are also reduced in this system.

Tribot 3-Legged Folding Robot for Rescue Missions

0

Meet the Tribot: a 3-legged robot that can crawl, roll, and jump to complete search & rescue mission. It also folds away into a compact form. As EPFL researchers explain, these bots can jump as high as 25 centimeters, 7 times their size.

Cafe X Robotic Coffeebar 2.0 Makes You Delicious Coffee Every Time

Meet Cafe X’s Robotic Coffeebar 2.0: a robotic drink production system that allows customers to order coffee using an app or kiosk and have a robot arm prepare it for them. Robotic Coffeebar 2.0 is being launched at One Bush Plaza in the Financial District. Customers will be able to enjoy espresso-based beverages, nitrogen infused cold brew, and more.

Haptic Robotic Hand Performing Realistic Human-Robot Handshake

0

Most robotic hands are capable of performing handshakes in one shape or form. They are not always capable of doing it with human-like agility though. The Laval University Robotics Lab has demonstrated a prototype that produces a realistic human-robot handshake.

Dolce & Gabbana Using Drones Instead of Models to Carry Handbags

0

Robots and drones are going to take many jobs from humans. Could they also replace fashion models? Dolce & Gabbana have already used drones to carry handbags down the runway instead of models. They were used to carry leather and jewel-encrusted handbags from the company’s latest collection.

It will probably take a few more years before these machines can fully replace professional models though.

CARL Smart Home Security Robot
