Sony’s Aibo is one of the cutest robot dogs you can get your hands on. The company has just announced a chocolate-tricolor version of the robot. The Aibo chocolate edition has the same hardware and software though.
The company is adding a new feature to these bots, enabling them to recognize faces and patrol the house to make sure everyone is safe.

It has speech recognition, a touch sensitive nose, and text-to-speech functionality. Thanks to its Arduino board, you can easily send and receive messages to the bot.
The Picoh comes with a fully programmable LED matrix ready for custom eyes or animations. Expected to ship in May.
Here are tiny elastic robots that can change shape depending on their surroundings. Scientists at EPFL and ETH Zurich modeled these after bacteria. The robots optimize their movement to get to hard-to-reach areas in the human body.
These bio-compatible robots are flexible and can swim through fluids and pass through narrow vessels. As the researchers explain:
They are made of hydrogel nanocomposites that contain magnetic nanoparticles allowing them to be controlled via an electromagnetic field.

BIMThoughts has put together a guide that shows you how to build your own Raspberry Pi controlled scissor lift. It relies on the PI unit to turn on the LX-16A servo to raise and lower the lift. The code is written in Python.
Meet the AMBIDEX arm: a robot arm with clever cable-driven mechanisms that makes interactions around humans safe. It weighs only 2.6kg and can be operated at max speed of 5m/s. AMBIDEX can carry loads up to 3kg. It can be used to move items and manipulate tools.
Robots are going to do many things for us in the future, including taping things. Eckhart has partnered with 3M to develop an automated taping system. The system relies on an advanced collaborative robot to lay 3M tape on any part or surface and “create die-cut pieces and extended liner tabs.”
