In the future, robots are going to do most of our space exploration for us. Plenty of researchers are working on perfecting them. This video from Kostas Alexis shows a jumping legged robot for Martial lava tube exploration. It is optimized for jumping in the low gravity of mars. As the researchers explain, this robot “utilizes torque-controlled actuators coupled with springs for high-power jumping.”
The robot used in this test is 0.47m tall, weighing 7.9kg. It jumped 1.14m in Earth’s gravity. Simulations show this robot can jump 3.63m in Mars’ gravity.
