Meet Jelly: a walking, rolling robot that can change its shape to walk short distances or roll longer ones. It can negotiate uneven terrain. The robot has 12 degrees of freedom with each leg capable of moving in 3 directions. As the UC Berkley undergraduate students explain, the next step for Jelly is an active balancing mechanism, so it can walk faster.
The best news? The code for this robot is open source, so anyone can use it to build robots.
