Collaborative robots are nothing new. We have covered a bunch of exciting ones here in the past. Intent recognition can make these robots even safer around humans. UMass-Amherst Mechatronics Lab has posted a video that shows how Hidden Markov Models can be used to recognize human intent of rotation in real-time using haptic data measured from a robot.
