Plenty of researchers are working on self driving cars. These cars are getting more advanced but they could still fail to recognize pedestrians. Gazing Car is an interesting project that explores the idea of putting robotic eyes on self driving cars for pedestrian safety. The eyes are controlled with dual motors for realistic movement.
These eyes communicate the internal state of the car to pedestrians. As the car recognizes things, the eyes track them and let people around the vehicle know. The above video shows how this approach can reduce the number of unsafe crossings.
