Robotic chessboards are nothing new. We have covered a bunch of them here. Square Off is not the only game in town though. In fact, chess robots have been around for years. The Fidelity Phantom Chess Robot was introduced in the 80s. It can move the pieces on its own and even play against itself.
The Fidelity Phantom 6100 has 24 levels of play with ELO rating of 1835. It doesn’t require a computer or smartphone to operate. This robotic chessboard has a 65C02 5 Mhz processor. These are not meant to beat Stockfish but are just a classic piece of computer chess history.
