Meet the EMBUR: a nature inspired robot by UC Berkeley researchers that can self-burrow vertically, the way Pacific mole crabs burrow themselves in beach sand, using complaint legs.
The above video shows this robot in action. As the researchers explain, they used fabrics to create a feathering mechanism to sweep through granular media.
