Robots are going to be used in space to search for signs of life. Plenty of teams are working on perfecting their designs. Take BRUIE (Buoyant Rover for Under Ice Exploration) for instance. It is an autonomous robot by NASA engineers that can drive on the underside of ice sheets to monitor for compounds that could indicate signs of life.
This robot was tested in Antarctica by a team of researchers at Australia’s Casey research station. The above video shows it in action.
