Here is a Raspberry Pi project that involves using motion capture to control an animated skull. The two Raspberry Pis used in this project communicate over WiFi using XMLRPC. As ViennaMike explains, an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) sensor and a Maestro Servo Controller were used to have the skull mimic the head movements of the operator.
