In order to capture high resolution models for 3D printing, you are going to need a decent 3D scanner and someone to work it like a pro. This video shows how it is possible to use a robotic arm to 3D scan an object. The operator uses a VR headset to see and send information to the robot. As the researchers explain, this robot has a RGB-D camera to get the job done. The position and orientation of the controller are “synchronized with the virtual robotic arm in the VR space and the robotic arm in the remote location.”
