Autonomous boats are going to be used in waterway-rich cities like Venice to move people and goods. Researchers from MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) and the Senseable City Lab in the Department of Urban Studies and Planning (DUSP) have already developed a fleet of autonomous robots that can be 3D printed at a low cost.

These boats could be used to ease street traffic and move people around in the future. They measures 4 by 2 meters with sensors, micro-controllers, and GPS modules. They can be programmed to self-assemble into floating bridges and platforms for food markers.
